Nobody said it had to be some godly reward. If you can spend a bunch of time doing missions with the chance of getting items and gold, why shouldn't you be able to earn at least a LITTLE gold or a random magic item through pvp?

You do get stuff. You get experience, fame points, and if you win the whole shabang (hold the HoH) you get exactly what you asked for, unique items.
So GW is already giving you everything you want. Whats the problem? Getting a little greedy are we?

I think I've been playing the same 6 maps on Counter-Strike for the last 6 years (since beta in 99). I like jumping on, killing people and securing my reputation as one to beat.
That, in an of itself, is enough reward for me. Anything beyond that is a bonus. I don't need "virtual" items to make me feel good, pride is enough.

im not sure bout you guys, but winning in the tombs or gvg battles reward isnt enough,......then perhaps what gift you think you should be given?
i like the rank points you gain from tombs and i like the ranking system they have for gvg. its balanced enough to keep me playing. ill go 24/7 in the tombs or gvg as long as both my team and the opposing teams are challanging. winning or loosing, if it was a challange, then it was fun. and the game is about having fun not getting extra loot or other stuff because your team won.

You get fame. Which used to give you a shiny stick. That was a purpose. Now there's... yellow magical elks of doom. But still. There's a purpose for you.
PvP is for fun. If you've played any strategy game or FPS, you'll have noticed hardly any of them have rewards for winning, besides the rush of victory and plain ol' fun. You have that, you have a nice reward for winning the HoH, you get fame, and skill points. What more do you want, honestly?

My guild had 15 wins, 13 losses. We went from the very last position, Which was somewhere at the 600's... to 83. In one BWE.

PvP is a competition. You don't go to a basketball game and win and then go "hey! do I get a cash prize!?" (unless you play professionally... hehe). The objective is to obliterate the other team and /dance on their corpses. If that isn't enough for you, go play some PvE.
